The Global Program works to strengthen the global development sector in the Puget Sound area by using three strategies:
Program Support: By providing direct grants to non-profits working internationally, SIF supports their impact on poverty alleviation around the globe, as well as strengthening Washington State’s portfolio as leaders in global development. SIF supports large, established organizations with proven track records and impact, as well as smaller and newer organizations demonstrating promise for impact in reducing global poverty. Collaboration & Networks: In order to stimulate innovation, partnerships, and growth in the sector, SIF provides ongoing support for Global Washington, an association linking Washington organizations working on international issues and projects. Through this investment, the Foundation seeks to promote collaboration and strong ties among businesses, NGOs, universities, the media and think tanks. Additionally, by creating this inter-organizational network, the sector is better positioned to increase its influence, impact and visibility on a national and international scale.
Research & Special Events: SIF seeks to reach a wide audience of donors, volunteers, students, and the broader Puget Sound community to inform them about the impact of non-profits working internationally based in Seattle and Washington state. By supporting the World Affairs Council 2009 Global Leadership Series, SIF provides the Seattle community, including more than 300 local high school students and teachers, with a forum of leading innovators who have been involved in improving global perspectives and practices. By supporting Philanthropy Northwest, SIF is working to build a strong philanthropic community in the Northwest and connecting community members in order to achieve more with their giving. Through these key investments SIF is working to increase knowledge around global issues and motivate individuals to become more involved in the local international development community.
