Central America regional partners meeting 1/24-27/2012
More than seventy of SIF and ELAW’s Central American civil society partners convened in San Salvador, El Salvador to critically analyze the links between climate change, environmental degradation, poverty and existing legislation to address these issues. In addition, the conference addressed the adverse effects of critical concerns such as climate change and rising levels of crime and violence on rural communities and marginalized populations, specifically women. SIF Co-hosts Conference on Preventing Youth Violence in the Americas
6/28/11
On June 28, 2011, SIF will attend a conference in Washington, D.C., to discuss best practices and lessons learned around youth crime prevention in the Americas. The conference will take place at the OAS headquarters in collaboration with USAID and the US State Department. The workshop will bring together government agencies, donors and practitioners to discuss the following topics: successful approaches to community policing, public-private sector alliances in crime prevention, juvenile justice reform and youth movements. SIF Supports PBS Newshour on Guatemala 3/4/2011
SIF celebrates the 100th International Women's Day by supporting a special PBS Newshour program on poverty and violence against women in Guatemala. Host Ray Suarez will report on critical issues facing women in Guatemala such as high infant and maternal mortality rates, and frightening levels of violence. Oscar's Cuba 1/21/2011
Join us on Friday, January 21st for the screening of "Oscar's Cuba" and to meet the director of this film, Jordan Allott. Oscar’s Cuba, a 60-minute video documentary, presented in Spanish and English, will tell the story of Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, a prisoner of conscience currently serving a 25-year prison sentence for the crime of “disrespecting the revolution” through his promotion of human rights, democracy and respect for human life in Cuba. Central America Network Meeting 12/1-3/2010
This three-day conference titled "Uniendo Esfuerzos Centroamericanos" held in San Jose, Costa Rica brought together Central America’s most important political, academic, nonprofit, philanthropic and advocacy leaders to discuss some of the region’s most pressing issues while creating partnerships and sharing strategies to overcome obstacles to poverty alleviation.
