Seattle International Foundation (SIF) and Esperanza International team up to fight poverty in Dominican Republic and Haiti

Text Message Giving Campaign starts Saturday, September 10th at Safeco Field

SEATTLE, September 9, 2011 – The Seattle International Foundation is joining forces with Esperanza International to alleviate poverty in Dominican Republic and Haiti. As part of this collaboration, SIF and Esperanza International are pleased to announce a text message giving campaign to increase resources for Esperanza’s work in Hispaniola.

Starting on Saturday, September 10th, anyone can support this program by texting the word “HOPE” to 80000 to make a $10 donation that supports Esperanza’s community-based sustainable development programs. The texting campaign will last for 30 days and all funds will be received by SIF for the benefit of Esperanza International. The campaign was launched at 7:00 p.m. at Safeco Field on Saturday, September 10th, where Esperanza staff member, Patricia Gonzalez, threw the first pitch.

Patricia will be in Seattle participating in an intensive, 10-week international women’s leadership program, run by local nonprofit iLEAP: The Center for Critical Service. This program empowers women grassroots leaders from around the world by providing them with the skills, professional networks, and global perspectives necessary to create change in their home countries.

The mission of Esperanza International is to free children and their families from poverty through initiatives that generate income, education and health, restoring self-worth and dignity to those who have lost hope. Esperanza promotes and supports development strategies that address the root causes of poverty, leading to improved living conditions, reduced infant mortality, better nutrition, improved education, increased income and environmental improvement.
