CABEI and Seattle International Foundation sign agreement to collaborate on efforts that improve lives in Central America
First joint activity will be the launch of the Centroamérica Adelante Program
Tegucigalpa, January 15, 2016 – The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and Seattle International Foundation (SIF) signed an agreement pledging to collaborate on efforts that improve lives in Central America.
The partnership will leverage the expertise and activities of both institutions to tackle key issues, promote best practices and achieve greater impact in the region. The partnership will focus on areas of common interest such as technical, financial and programmatic efforts aimed at reducing poverty, promoting sustainable development and strengthening integration in Central America.
CABEI’s Executive President, Dr. Nick Rischbieth, explains that this initiative is a priority for the multilateral institution, being strategic for the development of the region. He also mentioned that this partnership will allow the Bank to improve and increase the social impact of the actions carried out by the entity in the development of Central American countries.
“On behalf of SIF, we are honored to partner with CABEI to deepen our collective impact in Central America,” said Mauricio Vivero, CEO of SIF. “At the Foundation, we believe it is this type of collaborative cross-sector effort that will propel substantial change.”
One of the first examples of this partnership in action will be the launch of Centroamérica Adelante, a prestigious new leadership development program that supports high-impact leaders driving social change in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. This Program, founded by SIF and in partnership with the Institute of International Education (IIE), will be inaugurated at CABEI’s headquarters in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
CABEI was created in 1960 as the financial arm of the region´s integration and development process. Its resources are continuously invested in projects that foster development to reduce poverty and inequality; strengthen regional integration and the competitive insertion of its member countries in the global economy; providing special attention to environmental sustainability. CABEI is based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras with offices in all Central America.
CABEI’s financial strength is recognized by grade A scale ratings recognized by three different international rating agencies: Standard & Poor´s with an A rating, Moody’s with an A1 rating, Fitch Ratings with an A and Japan Credit Rating Agency “AA-“.
SIF supports worldwide poverty alleviation efforts through grant-making and other activities, with a strategic focus on Central America. SIF was founded in 2008 as a supporting organization to The Seattle Foundation for the purpose of increasing and enhancing international philanthropy and development efforts from the Pacific Northwest and to serve as a resource to the community. Since 2008, SIF has granted more than $17 million to 188 high impact organizations in 68 countries, including $10 million in grants to Central America.
SIF organizes annual events, such as the Central America Donors Forum and supports programs such as the Central America & Mexico Youth Fund (CAMY Fund).
